Dear Christy, I am curious of this amount of weight you have rapidly gained and lost and gained again. Has your doctor recommended a diet for your pregnancy? Has there been any other symptoms that may require testing for preeclampsia(severe swelling/water retention, low urine output, highblood pressure, etc?) diabetes, or hyper/hypothyroid disease?

I was told by my 2nd OB after my 2nd pregnancy that I had "post-partum thyriod disease" which explained why I gained 40lbs during pregnancy and lost most within 3-4 months. My thyroid levels were up and down the charts! Eventually, it evened out that year but I have since become medicated for Hypo-thyroid disease.

Breastfeeding should help you lose some of the weight while it breaks down the fat in your body to help make the breastmilk. My friends and I have noticed our weight drop faster than mom's who don't...And the 10lb "fat reserve" drops upon weening. (I breastfed each child for about 14 months when they practically weened themselves to a sippy cup.)

Slimfast is NOT a good alternative. Nothing replaces real food for creating the best breastmilk. (I would also think that Slimfast + vitamins may lead to severe constipation?) I recommend checking out the nearest La Leche' group- they keep an excellent library of breastfeeding/diet books they will lend out for free. Exercise is great but gradual is better-a sudden change to excessive excerise could put a strain on your milk supply.

The best thing I did was put a food servings chart on my fridge. It reminded me to eat more vegetables and measure portions on my plate. I've continued by using a chart for my kids. Best wishes! Marie
