Re: Bicornuate uterus & twinsFrom: Marshella (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 11 Jul 1999 14:40:07 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Nicole, Just because you needed a cerclage for a previous pregnancy doesn't mean you need one for subsequent pregnancies! Ditto for the bicornate uterus and cramping, though these things might make you more likely to have to have one, its not necessarily so. A bicornate uterus is just one that is shaped a little differently from the usual. Often times there is some adhesion that causes it to be more heart shaped and who knows, it could be even easier to carry the twins because there may be some separation between the two, almost as if they each have their own uterus, or at least half of it! :-) It doesn't matter what shape your uterus is or that you needed a cerclage before because what matters is the current state of your cervix. If it remains tight and closed, no matter what the contractions or pain that you have, there is no worry that the babies will be delivered early. However, if you start to dialate or thin, etc, then your doctor may want to do another cerclage. And they want to see you every four weeks to be sure that you don't start to do just that and if you do, then they will do the cerclage. Don't fix what ain't broke! I wish I could help ease your worries. One thing is for certain that it is known the more you worry the more the pain hurts! So try to relax. Congrats on the twins! Mars (edd#1 2/10/00)
