PRENATAL vitamins.....From: Marshella (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 9 Jul 1999 22:11:15 -0500 (CDT)
Hello all, For those of us who have taken or are taking prenatal vitamins containing Iron, I'd love to know how much iron is in them and where did you get the vitamins? I was dismayed to learn that the vitamins that are recommended/supplied by my HMO contain a whopping 333% RDA (60 mg) of Iron, and I think this is TOO MUCH!! I'm rather worried about getting too much iron in particular because I know of its affects on constipation and of some studies saying that perhaps women have less heart, stroke problems because they have a diet lower in iron than men do on average. Plus, its well known that Iron overdose is very bad for children. I am careful to always eat a nutritious, well balanced diet, with the exception of the excess sweet calories. :-/ ut since I've been pregnant and with the help of nausea, I've been pretty good at cutting out the sweets! :-) Anyone else share these concerns about Iron?? Mars and baby-to-be 2/10/00 P.S. Since here in MD I'm finding more and more that Prenatal vitamins are a prescription-only item, its harder to compare the RDA levels in them before purchase. :-(
