Failure to Thrive at 20 weeks...From: Cyndy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jun 1999 22:14:51 -0500 (CDT)
Asking this for my sister's 20 week pregnancy---An US showed the fetus to be the size of a 16 week old fetus. Her due date was moved back by nearly 1 month, with arrangements for a F/U US 1 week later with no mention of any particular problem except "smallness for gestational age".This next US showed a "black dot" in the blood circulation of the fetus' returned blood to Mom? My sister related this to me and was additionally told that the baby "wasn't going to make it". So far it is still alive(moving)...2+ weeks later. (1)Is this a blood clot that will impede nutrient/waste exchange to the fetus? My sister is 20 yo and I can't help to think she did'nt get the whole picture about what was going on. Is it inevitable that the fetus will eventually die from toxin/waste build up? Am I being too negative or is it possible this "black dot" would dissolve enough to allow nutrients pass over time and turn around the prognosis? Thanks! Cyndy
