Do i have to give a newborn vit. supliments?

I have a 10 day old baby, and when I went to the first appointment with my family doctor, he told me that breast milk does not have enough vitamins in it for the baby and that next week I should start giving her vitamin drops (tri-vi-sol). This does not make sence to me considering breast milk is the best way to feed your baby. I eat a very well balanced diet, and am still taking vitamin supliments myself. Do I really need to give her vitamins? Thank you for your help, Christine
