Advice about fever...From: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 19 Jun 1999 15:10:50 -0500 (CDT)
My friend recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy. There were no complications with the delivery, except that he was a good sized baby, 8 lbs, 4 oz. It was a vaginal delivery. My friend started running a fever, as high as 105, two days prior to the delivery & has continued some 3 days afterwards. The elevated temps especially occur during the night. They have been running tests, but can find no explanation and she has no other flu symptoms, etc. The baby also ran a temp of around 101 for the first day or two, but he is fine now. Any help or suggestions you can give would be greatly appreciated. Can the temp or antibiotics they are giving the mother directly effect the baby since she is breast feeding? The hospital does not want the mother to leave until she's gone 24 hours without a fever. She has been there 5 days already...
