Lack of periods, and the lack of ovulation that implies, is a risk
factor for developing endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining).
There are many resons for not ovulating and not menstruating and a basic
workup usually includes measuring thyroid and prolactin levels via a
blood test. If there is an underlying condition, correction of it
usually leads to resumption of normal cycles.
If not, Clomid can be used to stimulate ovulation in hopes of
conceiving. If one does not want to be pregnant, either using
progesterone periodically opr using birth control pills can decrease
risks of endometrial cancer. The incidence of twins after using Clomid
is about 5%.
Best of luck to you -- it took 3 years and infertiltiy treatments, but I
know have a 6 month old daughter -- it is all worth it so don't give up!
