Well, I'm probably 30-45 minutes from the hospital by the time I get out of the house. Also, my 1st baby was born after only 5 hours from start to delivery (almost 2 of which was pushing).

So maybe they want to keep things controlled rather thanrisk a "surprise" delivery that doesn't make it to the hospital.
