retained placental fragmentsFrom: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 May 1999 14:23:59 -0500 (CDT)
Can anyone give me some more information on the above subject? I had my baby 4 weeks ago, and although everything is fine now I'm pretty sure I passed a placental fragment at 3 weeks 4 days postpartum. I bled normally for a week, then my flow decreased markedly, only to resume a couple days later. I then bled dark red blood in consistent amounts until around the day I passed the tissue, when my bleeding increased and I had some small clots. Then I passed the chunk of tissue. I had about an hour of crampiness afterwards and then my flow changed from dark red to pinkish red and now, 5 days later my flow is yellowish, normal for the end. I examined the tissue quite thoroughly and it did not appear to be a blood clot. The two sides were different in appearance, and there seemed to be veins running through one side, while the other side seemed to be dark clotted blood. If this was a placental fragment, could its retention affect the establishment of my milk supply? I seem to have less milk this time around compared to when I had my other children. Thanks, Robin
