In a message dated Tue, 25 May 1999 1:52 PM, amygmoore@hotmail.com (Amy) writes: >Subject: Where have all the drs gone??? >Are there any ob/gyns on this forum?? >Why is it that only a few of the >questions here get answers?? >> Most OB-Gyn MDs that I know (and considering I'm a Labor & Delivery nurse married to an OB-Gyn MD means that I know a SIGNIFICANT number of them!) work 12+ hours a day in their offices seeing 30-50 patients a day, spend 2-4 hours of their evening returning phone calls from patients, and get at least 1-3 phone calls during the night from the hospital that usually result in a middle-of-the-night trip into deliver a baby or see a very ill Gyn patient needing emergency surgery or care. This is their job, one that they've chosen, and one that they get paid for. This forum on the other hand, is purely voluntary, gives NO sort of reimbursement (other than a rare thank-you), and actually carries the very real threat of potential legal action against them. Given that your average OB-Gyn doesn't have much spare time, is it any wonder they answer very few questions?????? Also, many questions are asked that have already been answered and those answers are in the archives. There is a disclaimer at the entrance to the pregnancy-birth forum: IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER The doctors and other medical professionals will do their best to answer questions. But it is VERY important you understand a few things before expecting an answer: MOST IMPORTANT - This forum does not replace the need for you to visit with your doctor! There is no guarantee that the person answering your question is qualified to answer any medical question. Just because they claim to be an authority does not mean they are a certified health care practitioner. Anyone can join this forum and represent themselves as having qualifications and credentials they do not have, or being someone they are not. Advice can only be based on what the responder has been told. Medical professionals do not have the benefit of your medical history, a visual examination, or a physical examination. This limits what they can offer as advice. The best use of this forum, for medical advice, is to ask questions that are informative yet do not directly impact your health condition. Your questions should focus on areas such as: Information about a specific condition or disease - not diagnosis of your condition Referrals to hard to find specialists Referrals to support groups Information about healthy life style choices You should not ask questions like: Can you tell me what condition I have? Why did my doctor do this? Was my doctor correct? What is the best treatment for my condition? What dosage of a prescription should I take? How long should I do this or take this? MOST IMPORTANT - This forum does not replace the need for you to visit with your doctor! And finally, keep in mind that it's always a very busy season in the OB-GYN world. Birthrates are skyrocketing, people are living longer and getting sicker, and the world spins by at an increasingly dizzying speed making the chores of daily living harder to accomplish in shorter and shorter periods of free time for a busy professional. If you feel you're NOT getting an answer, then call YOUR personal MD and SCHEDULE a visit to discuss your question(s). That's the only way to guarantee getting some type of answer! Good luck!
