Diastasis rectiFrom: krista (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 May 1999 22:17:48 -0500 (CDT)
I am 31.5 weeks pregnant with my third child. I have been experiencing a strong muscle pain from right above my navel to right below my breast line. I first began to experience the pain around 25 weeks of pregnancy. The pain has since progressed intensly. I have talked with my doctor and he suspects a spliting of the upper abdominal muscle, called diastasis recti. My concern is not as much with the postpartum effects, but with the antepartum effects. Whenever I cough or sneeze or strain in any manor, the pain is sharp. I have a two year old son, whom I have to pick up from time to time. By the end of each day, I am in tears because the pain is so intense. When I am ready to deliver, how with the vaginal delivery be effected by this. I fear the pain from pushing may be severe, with the muscle tear even more? Can there be any bleeding or hemorrage due to the additional strain? I am normally a very small person, I am rather large for 32 weeks. Even though I want to deliver vaginally, should I consider a cesarean? If anyone has any answers or previous experiences with this condition please reply. - According to the AMA publication of the ICD9 codes, diastasis recti is coded as 728.84, however, it references 665.8X if it is complicating pregnancy. When I look up the code for 665.8 the definition is obtetrical trauma. What exactly is the extent of this condition?
