Does anyone know anything about Thalassemia? My sister in law is 10 weeks pregnant and her ob is sending her for genetic counseling because of risk of Thalassemia. This is her second child her first is fine -- there was no mention of this in her first pregnancy. The only information she has been able to come up with so far is it is a risk factor in people with Mediterranean heritage. She has some Italian along with other non Mediterranean blood.
