Period Irregularity Problem Cause of Missed Miscarriage? From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 24 May 1999 13:19:14 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 28 and had a D & C for a missed miscarriage on 5-12-99. (I was 13 weeks pregnant, baby died at 7-8 weeks.) Prior to this miscarriage, we delivered a healthy child on 10-7/96. However, in between my healthy child and this one, I had very irregular periods during the 6 months prior to the miscarriage when we had gone off the pill and were trying to conceive. I saw a midwife for the period irregularity (the ob's in my clinic were all booked so they suggested her) prior to conceiving this child, and she just felt I hadn't waited to be off the pill long enough and this was causing my cycle irregularity and didn't do any blood tests or anything to check my hormone levels. My last cycle before I became pregnant w/the baby I just miscarried was 68 days long! My question is, I know that no one medically takes a miscarriage seriously until you've had 3 (particularly when you have one healthy child) but before we attempt to conceive again, is there any kind of testing you would suggest we have done to see if there is some kind of hormonal imbalance with my system that may cause another miscarriage? If so, what test should I have?
