Metrocream while nursingFrom: Marcia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 24 May 1999 08:21:19 -0500 (CDT)
This weekend during a visit to my GP for something else, he diagnosed me with rosacea, a minor skin disease. I mentioned that I was nursing, though infrequently (2 or 3 x per day at most) and he said that it was OK to use this topical cream (metroidazole). However, I was reading the precautions in the package insert and under "nursing mothers", there is the admonishment, "Even though blood levels are significantly lower with topically applied metronidazole than those achieved after oral administration of metronidazole, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug..." I can easily put off taking this for a few months until the baby stops nursing, but I wonder if it is really *that* necessary. Have any of the doctors here ever heard of this? I would appreciate some advice. Thank you for your time.
