Thanks. > This happened to me with my third child. My heart would palpitate and sometimes my HR would be over 130 for a significant period of time while resting. I was lightheaded and S.O.B. also. There was no apparent cause such as caffeine or anxiety. It started for me at around 24 weeks. I ended up at a cardiologist who ran the requisite tests-2-D echo and ECG. My hearts structure was fine (concern since my family has a history of heart defects and problems) and I was put on beta-blockers to control my heart rate. I took them prn and it helped loads. The beta-blockers are safe in pregnancy-women with heart conditions have taken them for years. I was followed very closely though for the rest of my pregnancy- NST's and U/S checking for size. My OB was concerned that the rapid heartrate might deprive the baby of some blood therefore impeding growth. I was induced at 41 weeks with a weight estimate of 6-6 1/2 pounds. Ian was almost 8 lbs and perfect. FWIW, my cardiologist thought my Ob was overreacting. he said he sees women with this all the time. T karen
