hi cara- last march on the first day of spring i gave birth to a 2lb 13 oz '28 weeker'. i had been in the hospital on strict bed rest for seven weeks fighting delivery for as long as we could. though kenny was able to get betamethasone in utero to help mature his lungs, it was still a pleasant surprise to all docs and nurses that he was able to breathe without a ventilator when he was born. He spent eight weeks in the hospital-at one point very sick with 'nec' (necrotizing enterocolitis)-but now at thirteen months is OBNOXIOUSLY healthy!i am a huge advocate of kangaroo care. i will always credit it with getting kenny home a month before his due date(!). we have since been seen at the high risk clinic where they were all pleased to see that he is cruising along developmentally, testing consistently at 12-14 months when he should only be at 10 months developmentally. preemies are tough, their early life has a lot of ups and downs, but the closer you get to that thirty week mark the sunnier the outlook. i hope you're still going crazy on bedrest, but if not please know you've made it longer than some of us and we're doing great! good luck- cindy & boo (kenny) At Fri, 23 Apr 1999, cara wrote: >
