Re: Ambivalent Doctor ?From: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 4 May 1999 17:31:13 EDT

I have never had an internal with this entire pregnancy. I have no idea if I am dilated, or whether that is something that must be known in advance of obvious labour signs >> Most insurance plans only cover one U/S which most OBs do at around 20 weeks to verify gestational age and to check for proper development. They don't do internals until you approach your due date though exactly when varies. Your Dr sounds like he is doing everything and fortunately you didn't require more testing. I had gestational diabetes (borderline) and was only sent to a dietitian, but I knew people who were monitoring their glucose at home. I questioned my Dr about this and he said it was because I had such a mild case. I guess he knew what he was talking about because the few levels they checked throughout my pregnancy were normal and my daughter had no effect from the diabetes. If you feel you have difficulty talking with him or feel rushed during your visits that's a different problem and you may want to consider seeing a different Dr in the future. Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope everything continues to go smoothly. Lori
