Dear Christine The due date that you are given is only teh average date to expect your baby +/- two weeks, i.e. 50% of babies will come by the due date but 97.5% will come by 42 completed weeks. The post dates study from Toronto showed that the risks of continuing with apregnancy are approximately balanced by the additional risks of induction (as you found out..induction carries a risk of C.S.) at about 10-12 days after your due date. If your due date has been carefully calculated (first day of last period + 280 days,if cycle is 28 days) and verified by early ultrasound there is not much you can do but wait. Some patients choose not to be induced but should then accept daily monitoring by ultrasound and heart traces from EDD+14 days.
