Confusion About Ovulation Test

From: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)

For the past several days I've experienced symptoms associated with ovulation--skin breakouts, light cramping, clear, stringy discharge--however, the ovulation test for the past four days has not resulted in a positive. The test stripe does seem to be getting closer to positive (i.e., darker), but it's still not clearly positive.

This is the same experience I had in 11/98--I ended up conceiving but then lost the (first) pregnancy due to blighted ovum.

So my questions are:

Does it make sense that the ovulation test could appear positive several days after symptoms of ovulation appear? In other words, would there be an LH surge AFTER the discharge of clear, stringly discharge?

If the ovulation test never turns out CLEARLY positive, does that mean I'm releasing "blighted ovums?"

Thanking you all in advance for any input.
