Mother-Baby postpartum careFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Apr 1999 00:36:45 -0500 (CDT)
HI! I am an OB/PP/NBN nurse and we are attempting to institute "mother-baby" care (or mom-baby couplets, as some would call it). It has been tried at our institution before and has failed miserably. I have found on the occasional times when a staff member is split ( takes a couple moms and babies to care for) between staffing nursery and postpartum, that I have so much more opportunity to observe mom's parenting skills and teach as needed and to observe her support system, needs, etc. I would really like to see it succeed this time, but I believe the only way for this to happen is to talk with others who have participated as either patients/clients or care givers in a "mother-baby" setting. I'd like any input listing PRO's, CON's, suggested reading, problems you may have had to solve and avenues you took to solve these. I would great appreciate ANY and ALL input. I will be anxiously awaiting your replies. KG
