The Round Ligaments (one on each side) are the upper support ligaments of the uterus. They do not grow on their own, but rather are dragged along by the expanding uterus. This can cause the pain that you describe. The pain can be on either side, or both, runnning down past the point of the hip along the crease between your torso and your leg (inguinal ligament), and on to its insertion point in the outer lips of the vagina. The pain is usually positional, and can radiate down the inner thigh as well sometimes. RLP is harmless, but the pain can be excruciating at times. The midpoint of pregancy is the worst time for for RLP, but it can occur almost any time after about 12 weeks.
