During embryologic development, the female genital tract begins as 2 separate halves, which subsequently partially fuse. The typical result of this process is one upper vagina, one cervix, one uterus, and two fallopian tubes. Sometimes there is a failure of complete fusion, and the degree of that failure runs the gamut from a "heart-shaped" uterus on one end, all the way to having 2 upper vagina, 2 cervices, and 2 hemiuteri. Uterus didelfys is when there are 2 fallopian tubes, 2 hemiuteri, 2 cervices, and, usually, one upper vagina. The majority of pregnancies in this position are perfectly normal. There are some problems however. First, the rate of spontaneous miscarriage is somewhat higher than in other women. Because each hemiuterus is smaller than a typical uterus, and with a different shape, there is also a higher incidence of preterm labor and malpresentation, such as breech. There is nothing that you can do about any of these concerns now that you are pregnant, so try to relax and enjoy your pregancy. The odds are overwhelmingly in your favor.
