Re: bladder infectionFrom: murt (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Apr 1999 20:05:42 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Mary I'm not very adept with the web yet, so I hope that this is within protocol for this forum. I saw a post concerning bladder infection and possible threat of premature labour. In my last pregnancy I was 22 weeks and had an undiagnosed urinary tract infection. Although it is impossible to absoulutely prove, my ob thought that I lost the mucous plug, the infection got into my uterus and caused premature labour (also possible that the UTI caused the mucous plug to be lost). I lost this baby as a result. Interestingly, I am now pg again and have insisted that I am tested for UTI every 2/3 weeks, which my ob is happy to do, guess what - I had a kidney infection at 14 weeks, again no symptoms. It is such a simple treatable thing that my suggestion is if you are susceptible to UTI's, ask to be tested. This is just my experience and I believe, in a lot of instances, these UTIs do not cause any problems for the majority of women. I've also heard that (aside from cranberry juice)lemon juice in water or live yogurt can help avoid these nasty little infections. Thanks Murt
