Re: Internal Fetal MonitoringFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 25 Apr 1999 07:04:22 EDT
Several of people have recently stated that: internal fetal monitor=mother must stay in bed This is incorrect. I'm a perinatal high-risk Labor&Delivery nurse and there is nothing about an internal fetal monitor that makes it necessary for the mother to remain in bed. She can certain stand at the bedside and pace the length of the cable, the cable can be unplugged from the monitor and mom can ambulate to the bathroom or if continuous monitoring is necessary, the monitor can be wheeled near or to the bathroom ! Now, if there is a problem with baby or mom that requires mom to remain in bed, that's a different story. But the internal fetal monitor is NOT an indicator for "strict bedrest".
