Birth defects associated with taking CrinoneFrom: Claudia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 24 Apr 1999 23:56:08 -0500 (CDT)
I am presently 7.5 weeks pregnant and have been on Crinone 12 days. My OB's office assured me there would be no effect on the baby. However, I just read in the pamphlet that birth defects have been reported: abdominal wall defect and a cleft palate. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks Nov '98 (U/S showed fetus to be just 6wks 3 days)and blood test showed my progesterone go from 7 to 4 in 10 days. I already have two wonderful healthy children and would be satisfied with just the two of them. Of course I would love a third, but I do not want to risk having done something to cause a birth defect. My first thought is to stop taking the Cronin and take the chance of having another miscarriage. My level at six weeks was 7 again. I am now 7.5 weeks. My OB wants me to take till I am 12 weeks. I am not sure it is wirth the risk. Please respond. i am so concerned. Claudia
-- Amanda, I was wondering if you ever found out anything about continuing to take Crinone. I too am taking Crinone. I had a miscarriage last November because of a low progesterone level. This time blood tests at about 6 wks showed a progesterone level of 7. My OB put me on Crinone and said that another blooed test was not necessary. I just read in the booklet that came with Cronin about the possible birth defects and am very concerned. My doctor failed to mention this to me. He assured me that it would have no effect on the baby, but I am not so sure. I am very concerned! I now want to stop taking it immediately. I know my ob will not be pleased. I would appreciate it very much if you could respond. (I am now about 7.5 weeks) Claudia
