Re: Echogenic BowelFrom: chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 22 Apr 1999 14:49:46 PDT
At my 16 week ultrasound they saw echogenic bowel. My geneticist told me that there is a 85% chance that everything is fine, and that in most cases is it just caused by some blood getting in to the amniotic fluid. I am now 32 weeks, and there is no echogenic bowel (although this does not change any of the risk factors.) Two years ago I lost a baby at 22 weeks. I can understand that the prospect of living with the "what if" until well after you have your baby is scary, but there is a much better chance that everything is fine than the chance that there are problems. My baby is very energetic, and growing well, and everything else is perfectly normal. I have decided to just enjoy the pregnancy, there's nothing I can do about it it anyway. I posted two questions about echogenic bowel here 16 weeks age, and received no replies. One lady did have a question about it just a few weeks ago, but i have not heard of hardly anyone (non medical) who knows exactly what this is, so my impression is that it is not overly common. I do have more info from my geneticist if you want it forwarded, and i do hope you can find your own way of easing the worry. Christine
