Re: Breech babyFrom: anneminke (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 11 Apr 1999 16:28:44 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Christine, Seems like all babies that are due April 27th are in breech! Mine has been in this position ever since week 28, and when I had my check-up last Friday, my ObGyn told me that chances that she will turn during those last two weeks are getting very slim. I have looked up some statistics that say that: 30% of all babies are in breech at 30 weeks. More than half of them will turn in the next two weeks; 14% of all babies are still in breech at 32 weeks. There is a 60% chance that these babies will turn. Less than 5% of all babies are still in breech at 37 weeks. About 25% will turn before term, allthough chances are smaller when both legs are up (complete breech), when there is little room, in a twin pregnancy or when the baby is big. And there are babies that decide to keep everybody guessing until the very last moment, and turn the moment delivery starts! (dr. Miriam Stoppard: Conception, pregnancy and birth. London, Dorling Kindersley Ltd.) In my hospital they prefer to do a Caesarian when its a first baby in breech. And our little girl has one foot up, and one folded uner her, a 'dangling breech', so we're preparing ourselves for a CS. A great disappointment, indeed, but the health of my child is more important than the way it was delivered! Hope your little one will still turn in time! Best of luck, Anneminke (due April 27th)
