Cord 2x - automatic c-section?

I'd like to get the opinion of some of the docs here on a situation like this:

Mom is 40 weeks, baby not in pelvis at all. U/S reveals that cord is wrapped around the baby's neck 2x, so dr decides on immediate c-section. Baby is not currently distressed. The mom was fine with the decision, but I have some questions.

Do you drs agree that this was the best thing to do, an immediate c-section? Would at least trying labor, with good monitoring of FHT, have been okay? I know lots of babies are born fine with their cord around their neck, but it is not usually something that is none before labor so I don't have experience with the SOP.

What I know professionally, about this is different than what I would probably do, personally, but then I wouldn't have had an U/S just because the baby wasn't in the pelvis and at term, either (personally).
