Recovering from 2nd miscarriage in a row, nearly 38 yrs. old. Should I be seeing an RE?

I have a toddler, conceived on Clomid due to LPD.

I had a D&C Dec. 2 for a missed misscarriage at 7 weeks. OB suspects LPD caused it, since I was not on medication yet. I had another D&C for missed miscarriage last week at 9 wks. I had conceived on Clomid. My OB suspects it was a random chromosomal problem, but isn't sure. The pregnancy started out with spotting at 2 weeks dpo, and had lower than normal HCG levels all along. The six week U/S showed no sac or embryo. 10 days later there was an embryo with heartbeat, measuring a week smaller than it should. dates could not be wrong. I finally started spotting again at 9 weeks. U/S showed development had stopped and no heartbeat.

My OB thinks I got unlucky and should try the 50 mg Clomid alone again. As I will be 38 next month, I feel this is risking more heartache and lost time. By the time I wait for the ok to try again, get pg, have another miscarriage, heal from that, try to conceive again, we are easily talking about another six months before he'll admit there is a problem we should solve.

I made an appointment with a R.E. at a fertility center. Is this the right kind of doctor?

What is recommended for diagnosing and treating unexplained recurrent miscarriages at my age, and how long should I "just relax" as I'm being told to do?
