First, it is normal to be really, really tired in your first trimester. The tiredness should subside though by the time you're 16-20 weeks pregnant. When I say "subside", I don't mean to the point where you're bursting with energy, but you should definitely feel like you've rebounded somewhat. Then the tiredness may gradually resume in the third trimester, probably in or around the 8th month. But you experienced something different, and I wonder if some of it wasn't the result of a virus or something psychological even. I'm now just starting my 8th month and am experiencing quite a bit of fatigue, but not nearly as bad as what I experienced in my first trimester. But I am blaming the current fatigue on a bout with the flu, which put me in bed for 7 days, finishing up 2 weeks ago. Since then, I have definitely been more tired than before the flu began, and everyone in my family who was hit with this same flu has felt the same fatigue since recovering - my mom fell asleep on my couch while she was visiting yesterday morning and my 2 year old has been taking 3-4 hour naps a day ever since he was hit with the flu. As for psychological reasons, there may be some level of depression or anxiety that taxed you in your pregnancy. But that's a lot harder to pinpoint. If so, it could be hormonally based. I guess the bottom line is, you may not experience the same fatigue this next time, and I sincerely hope you don't!!
