additional skin or tissue was >detected over the upper thoracic spine in my level one ultrasound This is difficult to answer without more information. The "extra skin" could mean lots of things. If theye simply mean that the skin thickness at the neck level is >5mm then this is unlikely to be significant although it has been linked in very low numbers to chromosome anoamlies such as Down syndrome. If they mean there is a neck swelling such as a cystic hygroma then this has more significance. Unfortunately the best advice is to wait for the L2 ultrasound and let the specialist who does the scan take you through it carefully.
