Automatic C/S for babies > 9 lbs?From: AMD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 8 Mar 1999 18:35:09 -0600 (CST)
My sister-in-law is just about to have a c-section after > 10 hours pitocin with < 4 cm dilation. She is miserable and the epidural is not providing enought relief. Last Monday, an U/S EFW was 8#12oz. When explaining the need for the c/s with my husband and their mother, the doctor mentioned a policy requiring c-sections for babies over 9 lbs. Is it common to have this kind of cutoff for allowing a vaginal delivery? I've known lots of 9# vaginal babies. BTW - she was induced for high blood pressure, combined with sheer misery. Poor thing is so swollen all over that her skin can't stretch anymore. Andrea
