Cholestasis

My previous question regarding any links between macrocytosis, obstetric cholestasis and oestrogen was, admittedly, a wide one. My main concern is that I have read that cholestasis may be responsible for 200 stillbirths a year, and that many women with severe itching are not being properly tested. What research, if any, is being undertaken in this area? How do doctors know if the itching is safe? Are any women particularly vulnerable to cholestasis in pregnancy, or do any conditions they may have already predispose them to being vulnerable? Does it come back in subsequent pregnancies, and if so, can it have more serious consequences?

Any information would be appreciated.
