There are no studies that I am aware of that have compared sexually active patients on bedrest with those who did not have sex. In general, ob/gyn's mean "no sexual intercourse" when we advise bedrest. Nobody knows for sure whether this is valid, but intercourse can really cause the uterus to move around, and can lead to infection in a water bag that is already weakened by dilation. Of course, your doctor would know the answer, based on your exact situation.

Orgasm, on the other hand, has not (to my knowledge) been linked to premature labor. Thus, it is unlikely than manual or oral stimulation would lead to any problems. Again, check with your doctor.

Best wishes. As my young patient said the other day, "bedrest really sucks." I hope everything goes well.
