What is a dry kidney?

I went to the dr yesterday. I am 24+ wks. I complained to him about a pain I have been getting in my abdomen only on the right side. I have had it for the last 2 wks and it is very painful. I usually get it while walking and I have to stop and wait until the pain is gone before I can start to walk again. If I do it before the pain is gone then the pain comes back as a more painful stabbing pain. The dr said that it can be a dry kidney-the kidney may be swollen and pressing against my uterus (which is the size of a 28 wk preg). What does this mean to me or my baby? I am having a renal ultrasound tomorrow and would like to have some facts so I can speak to the dr. Thanks for any response.
