My docs told me that prostaglandin gel was unpredictible. Of course the main worry is that my uterus will be overstimulated causing a rupture, and since there's not enough evidence to predict how I as an individual will react to the gel they'd rather not use it. Apparently, using an oxytocin drip allows more control, lessening the likelihood of my uterus rupturing. But having my membranes ruptured and going on the oxytocin IV is too much interference for my liking, I'd rather choose gentler methods. Then there's less chance of my baby coming well before it's ready.

I know I can deliver a 9lb 14oz baby because I've done it before. But if the baby I'm carrying now gets as big (or bigger) as my last one, my chances for a vaginal delivery will not be good. I am not a large woman, only 5'4" and small boned. So I think a pound or so would make a difference in this case.

Your The OB that attended me during my last pregnancy really taught me that nobody can tell for sure how big a baby is while its still in utero. He was a seasoned professional, he probably had delivered 1000s of babies during his long OB career. Still, every prenatal visit he would measure my fundal height and tell me my baby was a nine pounder and not to worry. My son was 2½ pounds heavier than that! I *knew* that my baby was more than 9 pounds and I told him so. Carrying such a big baby is definately a distinctive experience.
