induction at 38 weeksFrom: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 22 Feb 1999 19:38:12 -0600 (CST)
I'd very much like to get some opinions on the effectiveness of a good stripping of the membranes for inducing labor at around 38 weeks. I have had 4 other babies, the first two were sections, the third was a natural birth and my last baby was born via section again. I greatly desire a vaginal birth this time, but since my babies are always so big I thought my chances of delivering vaginally would be increased if the baby was a pound or so smaller. As it would be if born at 38 weeks. I'm very wary of the more traditional induction methods such as AROM and oxytocin drips. I'm told that I'm not a candidate for prostaglandin gel induction. Before I allow my OB to strip my membranes (cuz it hurts!)I'd really like to know how likely it is that this would actually tip me over into labor. Thanks so much, Robin
