6 1/2 wks LMP, 4 1/2 wks days past ovulation. No sac or embryo showed on 6 wk ultrasound and hcg levels are still well below normal. Why does doctor want me to keep hoping?

My last period was Jan 8. I took Clomid for luteal phase defect on days 3-7. I'm keeping basal and cervical fluid charts and used OPK. All indicate I ovulated on day 14, January 21. Tested positive on day 28 with an extremely faint line on OPK.

HCG levels have been: 28 days since LMP 13 hcg 30 days since LMP 22 hcg 32 days since LMP 54 hcg 42 days since LMP 998 hcg 44 days since LMP 1323 hcg

So, not only are the levels well below normal, they have not been doubling all along.

I had an ultrasound 6 weeks after LMP, 4 weeks after ovulation. The technician said she could not find a sac or embryo. the doctor on call said I either don't know my dates or the pregnancy is not viable. My own OB/GYN called me that night and said not to give up hope and to wait it out. He accknowledges that my chart is accurate, but can't say why there is nothing on ultrasound and hcg levels are so low.

I have no pregnancy symptoms, but my basal temperature is still at peak every day.

This was my first cycle of trying after an early missed miscarriage diagnosed by ultrasound on Dec. 1 and D&C on Dec. 2. I can't stand this waiting. Can anyone tell me what this all means?
