CMV & Parvo B19 exposure in preg

Hi everyone,

I am 21 weeks and found out my 15-month-old son may have been exposed to both CMV and Parvo B19 (Fifth's Disease) at daycare. I had a Parvo titer drawn Friday (waiting on results), but my CNM has advised me not to get a CMV done. I'm still unclear on her reasoning but I think she said it's because the testing may not clarify whether this is s primary, recent infection or if I was exposed before (if it shows exposure at all). We do know that after my first baby was stillborn in Dec. 1996, a CMV titer showed I had not been exposed at that time. (I don't think we tested for Parvo.) I'm going to talk with her again to clear up my confusion, as well as possibly discussing with a consulting physician and Max's pediatrician to see how we can tell if he was indeed exposed to one or both of them.

My questions today are:

Should I have a CMV titer done? What kind of info will that give me?

Should I have serial titers done for both the Parvo and CMV?

How can I avoid contracting either of these infections?

I did a Medline search last night on CMV and must admit that I was getting pretty freaked out about it. I have heard that at least with Parvo infection of the fetus, there may be some interventions that could save her life, but with CMV it's even more of a wild card. I guess having been the 1 in 100 statistic before, it's very real that we could be a statistic again.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
