Re: ConstipationFrom: Deborah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 20 Feb 1999 10:11:25 -0600
Jenn, Remember that the definition of constipation is not decreased frequency. Constipation is defined by what the stool looks like.......hard, dry and small formed 'pellets'. If your baby has a stool every five days, yet it is soft and yellow, then she is not constipated. Is her belly distended? Does she have a fever? Is she breastfeeding frequently and on demand? Supplements? Does she have at least 6 wet diapers daily? Is she crying as if she is in distress? Is she alert and active? Is she nice and pink? At five weeks, babies are still getting all the kinks our of their systems.....getting regulated. Infrequent stools are not unusual. If you continued to be concerned. please contact your health care provider for evaluation and advise. Deborah Wage, MSN, FNP, CNM Advisor, OBGYN.net Pregnancy and Birth.
