To Dr. McIntosh and KarenFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 15 Feb 1999 14:36:24 -0600 (CST)
I hope it didn't seem that I was intending to get a flame war going. That was certainly not my intention. In response to both of your last posts, you are right: scientific evidence (studies) are the best as far as persuading someone of one view or the other. I will try and find actual studies and post references to them at a later time (I am running two home businesses right now and am a SAHM, so I haven't had much time to research this properly for you). However, I am VERY pleased that both of you have been receptive to my comments - Karen, because you are doing your research, which is exactly what you should be doing as a consumer of medical care, and Dr. McIntosh - because you are also willing to be open to other ideas. I really appreciate your listening to alternative ideas. Michel Odent is a male OB from France. He runs a birthing clinic in Pithiviers. Honestly, I am not sure if he has any actual studies out there, but I do know he is doing research. He is also one of the board of advisers and creators of Birthworks (which says that there is no one "right" way to give birth, and most women intuitively know how to birth their babies under normal conditions). Again, I'll see what I can find out and post it at a later time. Lively discussion...without turning into name-calling...very good!! :)
