Re: Cytotec vs. Cervidil

This is none of my beeswax - I'm just an OB scrub tech, but Cytotek scares me, based on what I've seen it do. Perhaps the issue is the management of Cytotek rather than the agent itself, but I've seen patients labor and deliver precipitously, causing undue stress and pain on the patient. Situations have arisen when there was no time for an epidural, though the patients requested (begged for) one. One woman, a gravida III, barely made it to our unit from the ER before delivering (Cytotek was administered in the doctor's office that day). One of our obstetricians, a female, refuses to use it. Cytotek is cheap and convenient? Maybe so, but if I were a patient I'd prefer decisions about my care be made in the interest of my comfort and safety, not what's cheap and convenient.
