Unfortunately, it's just not possible to accurately predict one way or the other how a pregnancy will turn out based on an early, single HCG determination. There are too many variables (including lab error).

I know it's hard waiting, but medical technology has not progressed to where we can take a single HCG reading and tell patients whether or not there pregnancy will continue. In this situation I advise my patients to either come in at 6 weeks for a vaginal ultrasound, or, if they just can't wait, obtain another HCG in a week, then one more 48 hours after that.
