Re: Have I selected the right doctor?From: D. Ashley Hill, M.D. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Jan 1999 23:04:21 -0600 (CST)
I agree (as always) with Dr. McIntosh's answer, but I wanted to add one thing: It's possible that after you and your new doctor finished discussing your somewhat complicated history (particularly the eating disorder) that, to be blunt, he did not have time to examine you without making the remaining patients wait. In those cases, I simply schedule a follow-up visit within a few weeks to do the Pap smear and a full physical. I don't know where you live, but in many areas insurance companies will not allow a Pap smear except in very specific situations. If we do one, the patient gets a bill and is invariably angry. So, if your doctor scheduled a follow-up appointment, it looks like he or she is on track. If not, I would either make one with him or her, or another doctor of your choice. By the way, your history, while complicated by the bulemia, does not sound like it would interfere at all with getting pregnant. Good luck with everything, and congratulations on working very hard to stay healthy.
