ultrasound/complicationsFrom: A.J. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Jan 1999 09:58:37 -0600 (CST)
My wife had our first ultrasound last week, and our doctor was called in because they thought they saw cysts on one of the kidneys. He referred us to McGee's Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh. After a more thorough ultrasound on Friday of last week at McGee's, it was found that they weren't cysts, but that a tube connected to the kidney was kinked and all that was doing was not allowing the kidney to drain as fast as the other kidney. They said that it probably would correct itself as the pregnancy went on. Now, four days later, our doctor calls and says that they found an echongenic papillary muscle. Combine that with the kink in the kidney's tubing, and there's a possibility that the child could have Downs Syndrome. Now I really don't care what my baby has or doesn't have, I just was curious. After these two findings, what are the chances that our baby has Downs? My wife is scared to death, and I need some way to at least comfort her. A.J.
