You can continue to nurse, but you are going ot have to work at it. Breat milk is a supply and demand kind of thing -- the more the baby nurses, the better your supply. If you don't nurse for a while, then the supply will decrease.

Here is my advice: Take your bay to bed with you for a day or tow and nurse as often as he wants -- preferably every 2 hours or so. DOn't try to do housework. Rest. Drink plenty of water or juices. Eat healthy. The more your son suckles at your breast, the more your supply will increase. If you cannot physically be with him to nurse, then rent a good quality pump amd pump your breasts whenever he would normally be nursing (agian, if you pump very often -- every 2 -3 hours, that will help increase the supply.

I alos suggest you contact your local Le Leche League or lactation consultant. I've been going ot LLL meetings since my daughter was born 7 weeks ago and I find them very helpful.

Your doctor's office is wrong. If you really want to you can continue to nurse, but you've go to keep stimulating your breasts
