oligohydramnios and possible treatmentsFrom: chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 17 Jan 1999 18:06:14 -0600
I am now 20 wks pregnant with twins. This is my 2nd pregnancy, the first ended at 9 wks. I was assessed with oligo at 17 wks. Repeat u/s at 19 wks showed no changes in fluid levels. Fluid is almost nonexistant around twin A. Twin B is fine. The doctors have ruled out twin2twin syndrome. Twin A appears to have normal anatomy and functioning kidneys and bladder (we watched the bladder fill and empty during an u/s). The proposed diagnosis is rupture of the membrane. Twin A has a strong heartbeat, and is the smaller of the two, but within expected limits. Our doctors are at a loss for the cause, and any possible treatments. The only idea so far is to try an infusion after week 26. They think by that time twin B will be viable in the NICU, if treatment induces early labor. Does twin A's plight have any effect on B? Any insight on this matter would be appreciated, along with any referral sources (we live in southern michigan) Thank you, Chris
