Anterior placenta questionsFrom: Noelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Jan 1999 18:29:20 -0600 (CST)
Hi everyone, I'm 16 weeks today, and after not hearing a fetal heartbeat with the dop-tone at my appointment on Monday (again!-the last appointment at 11 weeks was the same), an ultrasound was done. It showed a moving baby and an anterior placenta. What are any potential 'complications' that I can be aware of with an anterior placenta? As pregnancy progresses, is there a good chance that the placenta will become "fundal" or "lateral" later? Can I expect it to be difficult every time we try to get a heartbeat on the dop-tone from here on out, or should I expect that it will become easier to get the heartbeat as time goes on? What about with a fetoscope later on? Truthfully, I am afraid that every time we try to hear the heartbeat, we'll get nothing and I'll go into panic mode again and need an ultrasound to "be sure" the baby's still allright. (This has happened twice now.) Also, is it harder to determine baby's position later in pregnancy with an anterior placenta? (I have had two OP labors.) And one last question - is it harder for mom to feel fetal movements with an anterior placenta? Sorry for so many questions, but thank you in advance for any help you can give.
