AFP TestingFrom: Jim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 11 Jan 1999 21:56:47 -0600 (CST)
Thanks for the responses to our Excessive Bleeding posting. It appears to have been a slight placenta previa which thankful to say seems to have corrected itself. We now face a new challenge (if the last one wasn't enough). We had a AFP test done in lieu of the Amnio. The results just came back today with an HcG of 86.7 or a MoM of 3.03. They tell us we have a 1/73 chance of Neural Tube Defect and a 1/154 (based on the test) of Down Syndrome. The doctor has elected to proceed with the advanced ultra sound. What does all this mean??? Are we at serious risk of a baby with a birth defect or worse??? My wife concevied at 36 with the help of Fertinex injections. We were told that the advances in fertility technology put the high risk age at over 40. Just when we thought we could now enjoy her pregnancy, this happens.
