Re: early induction due to a large babyFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Dec 1998 23:24:03 -0600 (CST)
Wendy - This is a tough question! Every aspect of your situation can be debated on both sides, so it basically comes down to what you and your doctor agree upon. If you have a strong feeling and the doctor doesn't agree then you either have to accept his opinion or find another doctor. The big risk of induction (in terms of its sucess) is you may not dilate fully. Since you've already successfully dilated in a previous labor, this may be less likely to happen to you than someone who has never labored before or failed to dilate fully previously? I'm sure Dr. Ind could answer that. That said, whether inducing you a week or two early would make enough difference in the baby's size (particularly head circumference, which is probably the main factor) to affect your labor is the subject of much debate. I posted a similar question to the Women's Health forum last August (before there was a Pregnancy & Birth forum). Check out the forum archives there; you'll find the responses good "food for thought". Also, feel free to check out my birth story in the "Success Stories" archives here (Alison's Wild Ride - a VBAC Birth Story) or email me directly if there's anything you'd like to talk about. :) Best of luck with your pregnancy & birth! ~Lisa
